Provision in building from Fire Safety Angle

1. Building shall confirm from IS 1256/1958

2. Buildings having more than one storey shall be provided with safe fire exits and fire exit route.

3. Exits shall be so located so that they are easily accessible to all people of floors.

4. Escape routes should be well ventillated.

5. Fire resistant doors should be provided for fire escape.

6. In case of fire (electrical or mechanical systems), lift shaft and staircase should automatically cut off. They serve as funnel and flues.

7. Flooring should be such that it can withstand fire for longer time.

8. Roofs shall be made for high fire resistant materials.

9. In case of basements, materials used should be such that they withstand fire for longer time. not to be painted and R.C.C. should be left exposed.

10. Lobby approaching staircase and lift lobby are must from fire safety angle.
